NJ Adoption
If you are living in New Jersey and are considering adoption, our attorneys are experienced in all areas of Family Law, including the various adoption processes. Adoption is an exciting opportunity to provide a new beginning for a child and to add to the love in your life.
Our attorneys can discuss with you the different avenues you can take to effectuate an adoption, which include:
Public Agency Adoption
Typically this type of adoption refers to foster children adoption through a public agency or an agency funded by the State or individual counties. This type of adoption is highly regulated, and it is beneficial that you have an experienced attorney to guide you through this process.
Private Agency Adoption
These are agencies licensed with the state that provide services during the adoption process. There is usually an additional cost when working with a private agency, and an attorney can be there to support you in making the right fiscal decisions.
Direct / Independent Adoption
This adoption is performed without a public or private entity of the state.
Stepchild Adoption
Stepparents who play a significant role in their stepchildren’s lives may choose to adopt the children and become their legal guardian. However, the biological parent must relinquish parental rights for the adoption to take place.
You can find a complete list of the different types of adoption on our page under “Areas of Law.” The adoption process can be lengthy and complicated, but with the help of one of our experienced attorneys, you will have a strong advocate by your side from the filing of the adoption complaint to the adoption hearing and through obtaining the judgment of adoption.
